The body of celebrated fashion designer Michele Savoia has been recovered from a river in New York City.

The style guru, who is said to have dressed stars including Robert De Niro, Mickey Rourke and Chris Noth, went missing during New York Fashion Week and is now believed to have slipped onboard his yacht and fallen into the water.

Divers pulled his body from the Hudson River on Sunday, three days after he was last seen at a Fashion Week party in Manhattan.

Police do not suspect foul play, but an investigation into Savoia's death continues, according to the New York Daily News.

The 55-year-old was also known for creating costumes for Broadway shows, and he dressed Tom Hanks for his turn in Lucky Guy and Ricky Martin for Evita.
