The body of Italian fashion mogul Vittoria Missoni has yet to be found a year after the plane he was travelling in vanished.

A vast search was launched following the disappearance of the small aircraft which was transporting the 58-year-old co-owner of the famed Missoni label, as well as his partner and four other passengers, off the coast of Venezuela on 4 January, 2013.

The plane was recovered in June, along with the remains of two pilots, and his wife, Maurizia Castiglioni.

The Missoni family released a statement to mark the first anniversary of the tragedy and insist the investigation continues 12 months on.

The message reads, "As of today there have been no biological remains found that identify Vittorio Missoni... In Venezuela, the investigation to determine the causes and dynamics of the accident and the identity of all passengers are ongoing. In thanking the Venezuelan government and the Italian government for all their efforts in these months, the families sincerely hope that the underwater exploration of the remaining parts of the wreckage, already identified, will within a short time bring the recovery and the identification of Vittorio Missoni."
