Finding the perfect pair of denim is like finding your soul mate – they fit perfectly into your life and you never want to let go.
This fall, find the right fit for your body – even if it means venturing outside your comfort zone, says Jason Trotzuk, founder and creative director of Fidelity Denim. The versatility of denim today means everyone can find a pair perfect that is just the right fit for them, says the designer.
“I think the biggest mistake people make is that they get caught up on preconceived ideas of what fits and what styles flatter them,” Trotzuk says. “If we let go of the confines of sizes and specific styles, we can surprise ourselves. Just try it on.”
Pastels, textures and patterns have made their way into jean designs over the past few seasons, and this fall, prepare for more details.
“This season, a lot of the focus is on textures and coatings. I am particularly excited for our leatherteen, slicks and vintage suede groups. All are coated denim adding a new edge and dimension to your basic jean,” Trotzuk said.
Floral prints, colour-blocking and grey and dark green are some other trends to watch for, says Tina Kastana, eBay store owner of fashionalacarte.com and Fashionpreneuer 2012 winner – but it’s always good to keep a classic pair too.
“My recommendation is a straight leg black jean; if you want to make it dressy, (add) high heels and a blazer," she says. "If you want to make it casual, pair it with a flat ballet shoes and a casual top - it works both ways, so that’s a must for your closet."
Denim is nowhere near becoming a fashion faux-pas, so don’t be afraid to spend a little, especially if it’s a pair you really love, Kastana says.
“Canadians purchased over $4M worth of jeans on eBay Canada last year, so you want to invest in a good pair because you know you’re going to have it for several years.”
