First Lady Michelle Obama hit the mark Monday night in a ruby red Jason Wu dress at President Barack Obama's Inauguration Ball.

The chiffon dress with velvet details featured criss-cross ruching in the front that came together in a keyhole and spread into an open back, one of this season's biggest trends. Obama wore Jimmy Choo shoes under the long dress and accessorized with sparkling bangles, circular drop earrings, and a Kimberly McDonald ring. Her new eye-skimming fringe agreed with the sexy look.

Obama chose Wu, a then-up-and-coming designer, in 2009 at her husband's first Inauguration Ball, wearing a flowy snow white one-shoulder gown. Wu was clearly excited to be chosen for Obama's second and final inaugural ball, tweeting "#Inshock!" after news broke.

Obama wore designer labels Thom Browne, Reed Krakoff (who is creative director of Coach) and J. Crew, one of her favourites high-end brands, to other inaugural festivities on the weekend.
