The latest launch out of McDonald's will be the first burger aside from the Big Mac to be slathered in the iconic sandwich's 'special sauce.'

McDonald's has poached its own recipe for success by taking the 'special sauce' used on Big Macs and slathering it on its latest sandwich launch.

The Bacon Clubhouse Sandwich is also being marketed as a 'premium' sandwich, with descriptors like 'artisan roll' and ingredients like apple-wood smoke bacon, white cheddar cheese (which, in fine print, is actually processed cheese) and caramelized onions.

The burger will launch across the US this month in three versions: with a beef burger, grilled chicken, and crispy chicken.

It's the first time the chain has used the sauce -- widely recognized as a version of Thousand Island salad dressing -- on an item other than their iconic double-decker burger for a nationwide release in the US.

The move comes after Burger King launched a blatant Big Mac knock-off with its Big King sandwich last year.

KFC Canada also released its own version of the burger this month, dubbed the Big Boss, replacing the beef patties with crispy chicken fillets -- but keeping the sesame seed buns and the 'special sauce.'
