Brussels sprouts with apples and cream


Combine your veggies and fruit into one side plate with this Brussels sprouts and apples and cream dish. The result is so delicious, you might just serve it for dessert. (QMI Agency/TVA Publications)

Brussels Sprouts with Apples and Cream

Prep time: 20 minutes

Cooking time: 20 to 25 minutes

About 1 lb. (600 g) brussels sprouts (cut off base and discard any yellow leaves)

2 apples, dice into 1/2-inch (1 cm) pieces

1/4 cup (50 ml) water

1/4 cup (50 ml) sugar

1/2 lemon, thinly sliced

3/4 cup (180 ml) 35% cream

Salt and pepper

In a pot of salted water, cook sprouts for 10 minutes. Drain and reserve. In another pan of salted water, cook diced apples for 2 minutes. Drain and reserve.

Make a syrup with water and sugar. Bring to a boil and add lemon slices and cook at a low boil for 10 minutes.

In a small saucepan, bring cream a boil, add salt and pepper. Add sprouts and apples and cook over low heat for 2 minutes.

On a serving platter, serve the sprouts with apples. Garnish with lemon slices drained of their juices. Serve immediately.

Serves 4 to 6.
