You can use the jam of your choice to make these turnovers. Have the whole family arriving on your doorstep? This quick recipe will leave you with enough time for some chitchat by the pool.

Strawberry Turnovers

Preparation time: 10 minutes

Cooking time: 5 or 6 minutes

1/2 cup (125 ml) icing sugar

1 Tbsp. (15 ml) milk

2/3 cup (150 ml) thick strawberry jam or spread*

6 Tbsp. (90 ml) softened cream cheese

2 large egg yolks

6 tortillas, 8-in. (20 cm) in diameter

Soft butter

Place the icing sugar in a bowl. Slowly mix in the milk with a whisk until the texture is firm but still malleable. Transfer the icing into a small sealable sandwich bag. Seal the bag and put it aside.

Put the strawberry jam, the cream cheese and the egg yolks in a food processor. Mix until a uniform consistency is obtained. Can be refrigerated up to 24 hours.

Lightly butter one side of the tortillas. On the other side, spread 3 Tbsp. (45 ml) of the jam mixture on each one, leaving a space of about 1 in. (2.5 cm) along the rim.

Fold the tortillas in half and place them gently on a preheated grill at low heat. Cook 2 to 3 minutes on each side, or until the tortillas are cooked and slightly crunchy.

Remove the tortillas from the grill. Cut one of the tips on the sandwich bag to make a small opening and use the icing to draw decorative designs on the tortillas.

Serve warm.

*Avoid light jams with sugar substitutes
