Fun with fitness

A look at Michelle Watson's Michi garments at Toronto Fashion Week 2011. (REBECCA ZAMON/QMI Agency)

The show: Michi

The designer: Calgary born, Toronto-based Michelle Watson

The groove: Pumped up, sexy 1980s and '90s tunes (just the kind you want to work out to)

The show stopper: The model who strutted down the runway with sass, and promptly threw her wig onto FDCC president Robin Kay's lap.

The iffy factor: Let's be honest - tight workout wear isn't for everyone, particularly when it includes mesh insets and leather arm bands. But when it's presented in this fun a manner, it's very hard to hate on it.

The shopping: Available at Sporting Life in Toronto, and at the White Space at the Bay in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.

The trends: All sleek, mostly black Lycra sportswear with mesh insets. It wasn't a trend so much as a lifestyle.

For those looking to add some fun into their fitness, this line is a great option - we have a feeling it would even work in the bedroom.

The only-a-designer detail: Biking shorts with a half-oval cut-out just above the bum - less than ideal for the elliptical, but pretty darn sexy for anywhere else.

The favourite piece: The elongated white tank top that finished the show offered the most coverage for those less than inclined to show off their stuff, and could function easily outside of the gym.

The beauty: Big hair (where applicable), teased into sex kitten bouffants, and paired with smoky eye makeup and glistening-from-the-gym sheen.
