Turn up the disco heat

Pack your tanning oil, Pink Tartan wants you to take a trip back to '70s.

Kimberly Newport-Mimran took a definite departure from the prim, ladylike silhouettes fashionistas have come to expect from her label.

The runway was filled with lithe party girls, draped in silky men's shirts over bell bottoms at the label's spring-summer 2011 collection. Circular sunglasses and long, wispy hair completed the glamourpuss look.

Shimmery fabrics, in a camel and khaki palette, were punctuated with royal blues, neon pinks and citrus limes. High-waisted slacks and deep-V dresses comprised much of the disco-themed collection, with a few tailored jackets and zippered, tapered pants adding a modern touch.

Accessories came in the form of wide-brimmed boater hats, wide belts that tied with fringes at the back and platform sandals to flatter the elongated pants.

Pink Tartan's feminine spirit wasn't completely abandoned, however, as models flounced down the runway in sheer, one-shouldered prairie dresses with a cinched-in waist. The ladylike look so dominant this season was shown with a creamy leather skirt that started high but ended below the knee.

Other looks included cream flood pants in a crepe material, blue and green exaggerated leaf prints in high-waisted short-shorts, and a black-and-white diamond pattern flowing throughout pants and floor-skimming dresses.

Where other spring-summer collections showed an affinity for the urban, Pink Tartan opted for the tropics, where these garments could be found adorning suntanners at a Saint Tropez resort.
