If the high flying loonie and some post-Christmas winter downtime will soon find you flinging aside your Christmas tree for a palm tree, you're not alone.
"The Canadian dollar has definitely impacted business with increased demand for resort wear, as people are planning more trips to sunny, southern destinations," says Christina McDowell, a national spokesperson for Holt Renfrew.
Although a swimsuit and a toothbrush get the packing started, you'll want to investigate the early spring collections, which are officially referred to as resort wear, and invest in something fresh to wear.
If you're planning a typical warm weather holiday of 10-14 days, some of the necessities you'll need are tank tops, cropped pants, gauzy knits and lightweight, silk dresses.
"Don't forget a straw hat," adds McDowell. "Tory Burch flats and a colourful tote will add to your relaxed resort style."
Colourful clothing immediately jolts aside all thoughts of winter.
Vibrant bolts of emerald green, blue, yellow, pink, red and orange jet you onto the sunny side of the street. Neutrals of black and white also pack plenty of punch.
Additional southern wardrobe essentials include short shorts a la Louis Vuitton, colourful full skirts, as shown by Prada, and slim ankle length slacks.
Pair bottoms with tanks and tees on hot weather days. Wear them with short sleeved silk and cotton sweaters on cooler days.
Take along a lightweight cardigan or jacket and be sure to add a pashmina or evening wrap to toss over your dress.
Sun dresses with empire waisted and baby doll styling continue to be popular. Important style details include draping and gathering around the bust, along with fancy, embroidered trim.
To keep the vacation feeling laid back and the luggage light, resist the temptation to overload with accessories.
Stacking bangles and an abalone cuff bracelet, along with a pair or two of earrings that can do double duty day or night, help to keep things simple.
Cover casual ground, in colourful or metallic ballet flats. Add strappy metallic sandals for fine dining and other dressy occasions.
If your sun seeking vacation actually involves embarking on a cruise, consider a few more style tips.
"Dressing for cruise ships requires a more comprehensive packing list. Although most on-board shops offer impeccable wardrobe and accessory options, they are offered at a premium. Formal and semi-formal attire is often required for dining ... Pack crease-free jersey dresses, for those glamorous captain's dinners," advises McDowell.
Take along a co-ordinating clutch bag to complete your elegantly well-heeled look.
