We take a look behind the scenes at the hair and makeup for three of Milan's hottest fashion shows - Prada, Dolce & Gabbana and Versace. All three shows benefited from the talents of hair-and-beauty dream team Guido Palau and Pat McGrath. Here's how they pulled it off.
Prada:
Hairstylist Guido Palau gave the models their cinematic, wet look hair using a mixture of different products. In fact he called it less of a hairstyle "and more of an attitude."
Hair was cut to hang just over the shoulders and drenched in a fixing product and Palau then added an oil just before the girls hit the runway for extra shine. Beauty legend Pat McGrath described the makeup as "a done-undone look." The smoky eye and burgundy lips were blotted away for a faded glamour effect.
Dolce & Gabbana:
The Dolce & Gabbana look was inspired by the Byzantine cathedral at Monreale in Sicily. McGrath was going for an aristocratic "but at the same time modern" look. Sophia Loren soft-winged eyes started with pencil but were drawn out with liquid eyeliner.
"Tons and tons of mascara" and a smudge effect complete the look. Models' faces were covered with concealer, and lips were a mixture of different tones of matte red. Palau added a bit of product and teased hair into a soft up-do.
Versace:
The makeup look at Versace was a "groomed, healthy, glowing version of punk" according to McGrath. Blusher went on the cheeks, and the girls were given light brown eyelids and heavy mascara. A nude blush color on the lips and strong eyebrows finished the look.
Palau blowdried the hair, then side-parted and lifted the front with extra product and heat to give a quiff effect. The ladylike but "boyish" style was held in place with hairspray on top but swished loose at the ends.
