Fifty years after her death, Marilyn Monroe will become the new face of Chanel's iconic No. 5 perfume, taking over after Brad Pitt's campaign for the brand was poorly received in October.

The sexy silver screen siren has been especially fashionable in pop culture recently, as the cover girl for Playboy's December 2012 issue and a lead figure in TV show "Smash".

While a bearded Pitt looks disheveled in his befuddling Chanel commercial - for which he was reportedly paid $7 million - Monroe will likely add a sense of girlish glamour to the brand. In 1952, when asked what she wears in bed, the actress famously told a reporter that she wore No. 5 and nothing else.

Previous spokeswomen for the fragrance include Audrey Tautou, Nicole Kidman and Catherine Deneuve, while Keira Knightley fronts Chanel's Mademoiselle campaigns.

This isn't the first time a design house has looked for inspiration beyond the grave as rival label Dior featured Grace Kelly, Marlene Dietrich, and Monroe via CGI in a J'Adore perfume commercial co-starring Charlize Theron.
